Overview

Revisit the traditional home of the ancient Hohokam and Patayan peoples who left traces of petroglyphs (rock art) in the Hedgpeth Hills. View more than 1,500 of them on a quarter-mile trail. Different interpretations of the designs are explored at the indoor exhibits. Remember to carry your hat, sunscreen, binoculars and plenty of water during your visit. Don't go for the petroglyphs because you stand off at a distance to see the view you are permitted to see beyond the fences. Go only if there is a good program in the center. Otherwise, the Waterfall Trail at the White Tanks west of Phoenix is the best place to view a wide range of petroglyphs up close and personal.
