Overview
The house at the Pioneer Museum is a T-shaped dwelling with a thatched roof, traditional dung and peach-pip floor and pioneer furniture dating from 1848. The outside oven and outbuildings can also be seen, and bread made in the oven can be sampled from time to time. The tanning-pit, wagon-shed, water-furrow, threshing-floor and water-mill are all authentic. There are also various farm animals that roam around the farmyard. Guests are taken on guided tours of the farm and the early farming culture in South Africa is explained, with demonstrations of cooking methods and farming techniques by arrangement. The museum also has picnic and braai facilities. Call for more details.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 09:00 AM to 04:00 PMVery Disappointed
Me and my boyfriend went there on a picnic date, but I must say it wasn't at all as I remembered. There isn't much to do except look at the house, look at the wagon and... Well... have a picnic. Also it wasn’t very untidy… Maybe I was expecting to much, but I would have loved to have heard the story behind the Museum... there was nothing or nobody to tell us who lived there, how they lived or what certain stuff was used for. It wasn’t at all educational. I definitely won’t go back but I must say there was little baby ducks that were so cute.
