Overview
Sometimes called "the Gibraltar of America," this imposing fort is located on Cap-aux-Diamants, overlooking the St Lawrence River. Manned to this day by traditionally-dressed troops who perform the changing of the guard every summer day at 10am,Quebec Citadel also offers a museum of Quebec's military history and the story of the Royal 22nd Regiment. Experienced tour guides lead visitors on a one-hour tour through 250 years of Quebec's tumultuous past.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 09:00 AM to 06:00 AMTaking my wifes picture beside a steadfast sentry. LOL. Fall is a particulary good time to go for the foliage also. Dining is five star. Never met a stranger in the city.
An important part of the history of Quebec. We went for the changing of the guard ceremony and the tour of the citadel. The tour guides are friendly and very knowledgable. Beautiful scenic views of the Hotel Frontenac, the city and the St. Lawrence River.
A must-go for family and history-lover. It has never actually been used in battle before., hence everything is in great condition. The citadel is still a working faculty for the canadian forces. The tour was great. There is a replica display for all the medals awarded in the past wars and a gun collection. And a chance to crawl through the edges of the citadel ( was intend to be built to defend the citadel) A great way to learn about quebec and canadian history.
I saw many fortress in europe but la citadelle of Quebec is one of my favorite. So well preserve that it is still used by the canadian army. True ambiance of those kind of fortress with a lot of artefact here and there. so big that you can't miss it you will walk along the side of the fortress any time
If you love the outdoors and cool winds, you will love the citadel. The back of the citadel has a walkway which should be traveled. The north winds and the St. Lawrence are magnificent to see from there and if you come when the tours are not at their max, the spacing is magnificent. The homes at the front of the citadel are maintained very well. They are very nice. The shops in the interior make quebec city seem like two cities. The pave roads will remind you of an old european town. The shopping can be upscale but they have some nice variety shops, with relatively iexpensive but nice products. Try the syrup shop, it tastes great. It is easy to get to from the beautiful train station, you can see it. Really a thing to see.
