The Byrd theater is a great part of Richmond's history and offers a fun and inexpensive way to entertain yourself any night of the week. Although they only show one movie each week it's only $2 a show and the inside of the theater is really beautiful. Plus, if you come on a Friday night (I think...) you can also enjoy a live organist show just like if you were at one of those old time movie showings!

The Byrd Theater is a magnificent place--where else can you fit a movie, popcorn and a drink into a $10 bill? It's a wonderful 1920's atmosphere, including the famous sing-a-long before the show, for our family's night out.

The Byrd Theatre in Carytown in Richmond is the best movie theatre I have ever been to. A lot of times I go right after I get off Ukrops and so I go a lot in my Ukrops uniform. The staff there is very friendly!!! Its awesome to look at the fancy chandlier over the seats, hear the organ show, great prices, and see a great movie!!! It seems like a lot of kids enjoy the theatre as well so hopefully they will keep this theatre for many more years to come!!! Knowing that a lot of the stuff in the theatre is 1928 original tells me that this theatre was built with pride, and built to last!!!

I moved up here from Va. Beach and greatly enjoy the Byrd Theatre. They have a friendly staff, I love how the whole theatre looks so fancy with the huge chandlier over the seats, playing of the organ, and the advertisment about litter right before each movie is very funny. They have played a lot of great movies over time but the best movie I have watched down there is The Illusionist. Its also interesing to know there is a water spring underneath the theatre. I'm very proud and glad that this theeatre has been going strong and in business now for 79 years!!! Hope it makes it to 100. Hope everyone has a great day!!! Mike Jones

We visited Richmond from Washington, DC hoping to see historic buildings, fun places to eat and shop. We were surprised by the fact that Richmond is like a ghost town. We thought maybe it was because we were there on a Saturday but the locals told us that it is always like that. They told us Richmond is not a tourist destination. There are a lot of buildings (warehouses, locked up hotels) but they are all empty! Streets are clean, but there is no one around. Visitor center is closed on the weekends! We were starving by the time we got to Richmond. There were a few restaurants on Cary Street but that seems to be it. Were we in the twilight zone, or the capital of Virginia?

The Byrd shows current films at great prices in a neighborhood where there's not a shred of competition. I just moved to Richmond and was delighted to find this gem in my backyard, especially to see the quality of the movie prints. Many budget theaters have cruddy copies that are scratched up, blotchy, etc., but the flick I saw was clean and clear. Friendly service too! I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to pay big buck$ at mainstream theaters. Why drive half an hour to the burbs when you can walk twenty minutes and pay 1/4 the price? This is a great venue -- beautiful old design -- and I'll definitely return.

We often go to Byrd theatre,the reason being the ambience of old city life and the cozy interiors of the theatre.The price of 1.99 is another strong motivation.Its nice to go there and take a break from the usual chores of daily life..dont forget to relish the Bev's handmade icecream once you are there!!

If you enjoy "vintage," you'll love the Byrd. A true movie house - with a larger screen than you'll find in newer theaters - and now the Byrd has digital sound! Drawback is the cramped, OLD, seats, but even they add to the charm. We've been enjoying the Byrd for almost 20 years!

We love the ticket price just 1.99 after all these years and the refreshments are also very affordable and on top of that the popcorn is better than any other theater I have ever been too ( and that's a lot)

Great flics, friendly staff and a heavily decorous and an appealing interior. The only downside is cramped seating; leg room is minimalistic.
