Overview

Located a little out of the way, this popular area and beach deserves a visit. Famous for its enormous shopping center Barra Shopping and upper-class residents, Barra has a certain Miami air about it. The visitor can come here to enjoy discotheques, shopping, good restaurants and bars. Probably the best reason to come here, however, is the beach itself. The water is clean, perfect for surfing, windsurfing and body boarding, and it doesn't get quite as crowded as Copacabana or Ipanema.

I love Barra. Now I am living in Texas, but I love Barra: wonderful beaches, nice restaurants and malls (Barrashopping and nearby Fashion Mall in Sao Conrado). Walk on the sidewalk as everybody else (they, Brazilian and turists do in all the beaces). Barra has nices hotels, with good prices ( they have expensive too), and, in Brazil all hotels inlclude a very nice breakfast. Celita da matta P.

Great memoriesby Yahoo | 2006-10-19 14:36:08 |

I spent 8 days in Barra with more of a local experience and loved it. I didn't stay at a hotel or visit many of the tourist sites but still had a blast. Anything from enjoying the food, walking along the beach, training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or climbing Pedra da Gavea. As soon as I left I began trying to plan for another trip back. There are several cheap places to eat in Downtown Shopping, as well as, an internet cafe if you need internet access during your trip. I didn't have a chance to visit many night clubs but liked Shanningans in both Barra and Ipanema. It offers the comforts of a pub back in the states, but still offers the fun that the Brazilian people bring. Everyone was very helpful and the language barrier wasn't as big of an obstacle as I thought it may have been. I suggest checking out the islands with the monkeys everywhere and also taking a few hours and climbing up Pedra da Gavea. The view is incredible and you avoid the hassles of the general tourist spots, not to mention it's free.

Barra - Paradise in Rio -by Yahoo | 2004-10-22 22:23:51 |

I loved my staying in Barra - A paradise in Rio - There you might enjoy the beach, the nature, the hills, the forest and at the same time you are surrounded by best restaurants, clubs, bars, theaters, shows and etc... Everything is new, modern and sophisticated over there. Evething is hyper - hypermarkets, hypermalls. Barra looks like Miami but I think Barra is better because there is no best season to go there. You can have a blast all year long. So if you are thinking about putting together nature and all the good things big cities can provide... Barra, Rio de Janeiro City is your destination. Have fun
