Overview
Sugar Loaf Mountain is one of Rio's most famous landmarks. It is the best place to gain dramatic perspective on how sea and mountain range confront each other to create the natural beauty of the "Cidade Maravilhosa", as the city is known. Catch the thrilling funicular ride up the hill and float above Leme. The top commands a glorious view of the Guanabara Bay with the Botafogo beach to the North and Copacabana to the South, and the wild landscape of Rio proper in-between. Be sure to check out the old open-air cable car on display that was used in the '30s. There are vendors selling coconuts and juice, as well as a food and refreshments stand. After Corcovado, I think the Sugar Loaf is the other must in Rio! First, if you can stomach the ride in cable cars, you will love this adventure! You must take a cable car from the ground to the first mountain, then another cable car to the taller mountain. Then you have to take the cable cars back. At first, the heigh is a little scary, but you almost forget about it when you start seeing the beautiful views. It's truly a unique experience. One of the times I was getting off the cable car, I was greeted by these native tree monkeys! They were everywhere! You get excellent views from the city and the Corcovado from here!
You can see all of Rio laid out and it is quite beautiful. We did not have to wait too long for the tram since we went in the middle of a week day.
Wonderful place if you can resist high altitudes. I recommend you to take a short tour in a Chopper located at the final stage of the pao de Azucar ( Sugar´s Bread. You will flight over Copacabana and other places
Equal to Corcavado as a must see for all! The view is absolutely beautiful...Rio is one of the most beautiful places on earth truly. The cable car ride up is neat too (reminded me of the Bond movie filmed there). Once you are at the top, you have breathtaking views all around! Must see!
A different view of a beautiful city. No matter where you are in Rio, you'll have a view of something interesting or beautiful. From the "Sugar Loaf" you'll get some of you most unforgetable views (and pictures) of Rio. If you are lucky you see Corcavado disappaer and reappear from the clouds. Go in the late afternoon and see the city light up. The ride up offers a few thrills and good views.
If you are afraid of heights &/or long cable car rides, then this is NOT for you. Otherwise, get over to the station and get your tickets and prepare for the best view in Rio. You've seen it in films & on TV & in photographs, but you haven't seen anything till you've actually been to the top.
You take two tiers of cable cars to get to the top of Sugarloaf. Great view from both tiers with the Corcovado in the background. You get awesome vistas all around, private beaches, the city, Copacabana beach...just too may things and too awesome to describe. I got some great shots of the sun's rays through the clouds reflecting off the water... A must see spot in this world of ours.
It was a nice ride and view from up top. There was plenty of plants on the top of the mountain you will probably never see anywhere else.
Must go at the end of the day and watch the sunset over the city.
I am brazilian and proud of having such a wonderful place in my loved Brazil. The view is just amazing. It's a heaven on earth. You can see the whole city from there. The best time to go is late afternoon when you can also see the sunset. One of my favourite spots in Rio de Janeiro
