Overview

Galleria Doria Pamphilj, the palazzo was once the home of Pope Innocent X (Giambattista Pamphili), and now houses one of the most refined art collections in the capital. The most famous names in Renaissance art are represented. Amongst the most celebrated offerings is Titian's Salome, a work from the beginning of his career. Also included in the Italian wing are works by Caravaggio and Guercino, a Portrait of two gentlemen by Raffaello, and the unfinished Allegory of Virtue by Correggio. There is a prevalence of Flemish names among the foreign artists, such as Brueghels and Pieter the elder.

Gem of a Museumby Yahoo | 2007-12-02 15:29:24 |

I'm glad to hear that 7 years after my visit to this museum in 2000, the previous reviewer had the same experience that I had about the museum, staff and the wonderful, loving audioguide narrated by the founder's son. This was one of the highlights of my visit to Rome in 2000 and I hope to return next year. In 2000 they were serving afternoon tea in the downstairs area. What a delightful idea...not sure if they still are.

A delightful surprise in the heart of Romeby Yahoo | 2007-10-17 03:07:22 |

The Galleria was cool and not crowded so that the experience of wandering through the galleries was most pleasant and at every turn, another wonderful piece of art was there to admire and study. I recommend it wholeheartedly and also the most helpful and pleasant staff. From the beginning with the audio from the present owner giving an overview of the house and collection, to the works themselves and the well stocked shop, a highlight of my Rome visit.
