Overview

A friendly, efficient restaurant run by three enthusiasts of good and simple cooking. Meals are accompanied by soft background music and you can sit outside in the lovely square during the summer months. Pasta is the house specialty here; for example, Spaghetti with bacon and onion, gnocchi, ravioli, or fettuccine with vegetables. The meat dishes are also good, for example the Veal Roulades.

      HONEYMOONby Yahoo | 2008-04-26 03:22:23 |

We went on our honeymoon! The food was fabulous and the pasta was homemade. When we were at this restaurant, we promised each other that we would come back to Rome before we are 50 and go to this restaurant! We are only 23 now.

Lived in Rome, Lived for Maccheroniby Yahoo | 2007-06-22 02:44:21 |

I lived in Rome for over a year, and ate at virtually every top rated retaurant, trattoria, and pizza place I could (and according to the Top 10 book for Rome, at at all of them except for two). Maccheroni is the one restaurant I always recommend and it is the one I always come back to when in Italy. Their gorgonzola gnocchi is the stuff of dreams, both delicate and rich, and hand made to perfection in their fishbowl kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work. These are people dedicated to their craft, and it shines through in every dish. Their house chicken (chicken cacciatore) was melt in your mouth good and redefined the word savory in the italian kitchen. For those who are vegetarian or vegan, this is the only restaurant I know of in Rome that takes as much pride in their custom made salads as they do their pasta. The mother of the owner prepares each salad by hand most nights, and their quality, complexity, and flavor is truly exceptional. You will not regret and afternoon or evening spent at Maccheroni (but do expect to spend the time, service is quick but the meal will make you want to luxuriate).

      one of Rome's bestby Yahoo | 2005-05-03 13:13:03 |

For a late lunch, it was the place to go, as the normal lunch crowd had departed. Extensive menu of fresh items was all available, along with some very nice local/unlabeled wine. Meats and pasta were great, appetizers were v. good, so much so, we had no room for dessert.
