Overview

Founded in the 1870s, Crocker Art Museum is known as the first art museum in the West. The historical building with hand-carved doors, ornate walls and parquet floors, creates a gorgeous backdrop as impressive as the art. The art includes the Gold Rush, Victorian and European masters and contemporary works. The museum hosts art talks, classical concerts, jazz concerts, and tours (afternoons and weekends). A gift shop is also available.

Open Hours

Tu to Su from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM, Th from 10:00 AM to 09:00 PM

GREAT!by Yahoo | 2007-01-22 20:01:51 |

This was a great museum. The building is as fabulous and impressive as the art displayed. We would recommend the Crocker Museum to anyone visiting Sacramento. We went on a Sunday, so it was free (which was nice) and it was not very busy. And we did not have trouble finding a parking space. As ornate as the building was and as impressive as the art was, i did not feel intimidated or out of place. Once again... highly recommended!

Great museum, down to earth atmosphereby Yahoo | 2004-10-07 16:27:07 |

The Crocker is fabulous! Beautiful building, great collection, great location. Sundays before 1 pm you can get in free, otherwise it is a bargain at 6$. Afterward you can have lunch and tour old town Sacramento, which is only a few blocks away. This is a great museum for those intimidated by the atmosphere of more metropolitan museums. The staff is friendly and down to earth, and you can go in jeans and a t-shirt without feeling out of place.
