Overview
Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort's facilities are the most comprehensive in the Cottonwoods, with meeting rooms, a variety of shops and an extra large dining patio featuring popular mid-day barbeques. The Wasatch Range's largest gondola totes guests up the mountain to 89 runs that encompass 1,800 skiable acres and span a 3,240-foot total vertical drop. Runs wind through impressive alpine terrain and drop over the backside of the mountain into Mineral Basin. Check website for prices and further details. The Cliff: beautiful in a deconstructionist sort of way...concrete meets cabin. Huge beautiful view of mountain and runs. Confusing zigzag maze to navigate the hotel if you are there for a conference as I was...(try finding the skating rink without help.) The overpowering issue I had was with the altitude. Being from near sea level, I had a headache the whole time which didn't subside until I was back in Salt Lake. That's a real factor for having fun. My shower didn't work and there was an picture window between the bedroom and the bathtub (so there were two shower curtains) I suppose for families with small children. The staff were courteous. Cell reception is spotty due to the bunker-type building but wifi is generally available within the building. I'm sure this is vacation paradise for someone, it just wasn't my speed. I'm definitely more of a beach bum than a snow seeker.
Plenty of good snow as late as March 08. People here nice and helpful. Resort is laid out very well, and we liked the combined snowbird/alta lift ticket. As with all things skiing, expensive. The ski school was a little disappointing. Night life was limited. Food was good, although again priced high.
