Overview
Great Salt Lake State Park has been popular with bathers since the Mormon Pioneers first arrived in the basin in the middle of the 19th century. Although no swimming ability is necessary (the high salt content of the water keeps even non-swimmers afloat), bathers should be aware that the super-salty water may irritate throat, eyes and nose. A small visitors' center offers a museum, local information and a video about the lake, while the private SaltAir development provides a few shops, some food outlets and space for concerts and other events.went in late april, despite the fact that brine flies are "not attraced to humans" and "do not bit", I left with about 100 itchy bites. Could just be my skin type as my GF had none. These things swarm and are relentless. Beautiful but check the season for these bus as it will ruin your time there.
This definitely isn't Lake Tahoe, but worth the experience. If you do go out far enough you will float without any effort of your own because of the salt density. If you're looking for a beautiful resort, this is not the place. Good to try one time.
The Lake is fine, but it has a bad smell that makes it a bad experience. They say you can float in the lake, well maybe, but after I walked 1/4 mile into the lake and it was only up to my knees (and bugs everywhere) I turned around and went to the mountains! Go to Antelope Island that is the best part.
It's not really worth your time if your only going to be in Utah a few days. It smells bad and the weather is usually not that great. A lot of people who live in Utah haven't even been there. If your coming to Salt Lake there are so many more amazing things you could see.
There is a cruise advertised with sightseeing and sunset dining cruises. They have a website that says they are open all week. Their phone message says Wed thru Sunday. They say leave a message and they'll call back. We wanted to go on the sightseeing cruise with a lunch. We left a message and called several times but never heard or talked to anyone. We made the mistake of driving out there. They said there were no sightseeing cruises and no dining cruises until Friday. We tell them we are leaving on Thursday and they continue to tell us to book a cruise on Friday. The Great Salt Lake itself looked no more interesting than any other lake. I'd have to say that it was a complete waste of time and recommend that you don't go there.
Worth IT !!! Beautiful !!! Amazing !!! Great place for an evening hang-out with family.
I didn't like the GreatSalt Lake Park. It wasn't worth the drive out there
