Overview
Salzburg's cathedral is the largest of the city's 36 churches and serves as the backdrop for the annual Jedermann Festival. The first church to be erected on the site dates back to 774 and was dedicated to St. Virgil and St. Rupert. The building we see today - the third on the site - was erected from 1620 to 1628 by the architect Santino Solari and consecrated by Archbishop Paris Lodron, during the chaos of the Thirty Years' War. Please be respectful and do not visit for non-religious purposes during mass.
Open Hours
- Monday to Sunday from 06:30 AM to 05:00 PM
Salzburg Cathedral
One of the most beautiful churches in the world. Just the perfect atmosphere for reflection & introspection. I could sit in the Cathedral for hours on-end. Awesome! My idol, Mozart, was baptized here.
