Overview
When you think of San Antonio, you don't necessarily think of an Irish pub, now do you? Well, think again. Durty Nelly's, located on the River Walk on the river level of the Hilton hotel, is a rollicking good time. Pull up a chair, order a beer (or two, or ten) and sing along with the pianist. A versatile guy, the pianist takes requests and can play just about anything. Probably the most fun thing to do is munch on the peanuts and toss the shells on the floor. Yes, it is allowed!Open Hours
Mo to Su from 11:30 AM to 02:00 AMWe won't go back to Durty Nelly's. The bar tender was rude and would not answer questions. She acted like she would really like us to leave. Every other bar was full and Durty Nelly's was totally empty. I think I know why. Not a good experience in an otherwise wonderful visit to the River Walk.
Durty Nelly's was the most fun EVER!!!Not fancy, but the 'upscale' crowd is not the target demographic. If you are easily offended, STAY AWAY!! We stumbled across Nelly's during our first walk along San Antonio's River walk. What started out as stop for a cold drink turned into our 'hang out' during our stay in San Antonio! Bawdy piano players kept the crowd in stitches with risque hilarous songs. Kevin was the best when he became hard of hearing and used his tip jar as a hearing aid! We never got to the food, because we were too busy nibbling on peanuts, singing, and carrying on! Great fun late at night. If you are thick skinned sit close for an especially good time!
The piano player is a hoot. It is a fun little bar with beer, peanuts and loud singing!! DEFINITELY make a trip to this cute little Irish pub which you are on the Riverwalk. I make it a point to stop by every time I am in town! :)
Durty Nelly's has been a Riverwalk staple since the 70's, and is still a fun place for groups. The present singer/pianists are talented but have strayed from the old time Irish music/singalong format of original piano guys Bill Bailey and Steve Palmer. No longer a family place, alas, the emphasis is on raunch and vulgarity, with very few Irish tunes and old time sing-alongs. It used to be a friendly place for traditional values--no more! Don't take any clergy or anyone over 50. OK for bachelor parties.
Single or not this is a great bar! Fun on your own, with friends, or your spouse. Get ready for some good beer and a lot of laughs. ;)
FANTASTIC...Just so you know, It's been there a long time. I was stationed at 'FT. Sam' in 1976 and went to Durty Nelly's way back then. I'll never forget, It was the first place I had ever been where you throw peanut shells on the floor. We would sit there for hours drinking and singing. What a great time we had. I always had an Irish coffee (OF COURSE) for the last drink of the night. Someday I hope to take my husbund there, I know he will love it too.
I have an opportunity to return to San Antonio with "my boss," and have threatened her with taking her there. Meanwhile, to make good on my threat, I needed to check to see if this pub was still operating. Hooray! It's still there with, it sounds like, the same "talented" pianist who was there 12 (ohmyGod, was it twelve??) years ago. Look forward to another "round" at Durty Nelly's!!
I love Durty Nelly's. I have been there twice. Every time I am in San Antonio it's a must to hit this bar. The atmosphere is great. The piano players are so much fun and so are the bartenders. I would recommend this bar to anyone wanting to have a great time at night down on the Riverwalk.
Found it one night I was in town on business. Had the most fun ever. The piano player gets the crowd involved, he has people who come in sit with others when it gets crowded. I was there once right after 9-11 and had piano player play "God Bless the USA" Everyone was on their feet hugging everyone else. Great place to have a great time. Right on the Riverwalk.
I stopped in for just some fun and the guy on the piano Keith was great! awsome player and quick wit. Yes the songs were politically incorrect and explicit so don't bring kids...but it's an awsome place to have a good time!
