Overview

Originally home to the Ursuline Academy School for Girls in the 19th century, this historic property was purchased in 1965 by the San Antonio Conservation Society. The Society feared demolition and decided to save the 10 acres. With reflections of French design, the conglomeration of small buildings is beautiful, especially the small chapel adorned with amazing stained glass. Today the center is where creative adult and child artisans of all skill levels learn and teach. With expert instructors, this is the place to learn traditional and contemporary arts and crafts. Even if you are not interested in taking a class, stroll through the grounds and visit the art gallery, the chapel and the Copper Kitchen Restaurant.

Open Hours

  • Monday to Sunday from 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM

Great place for an OUTDOOR WEDDINGby Yahoo | 2006-09-16 14:52:24 |

My husband and I got married here and it was absolutely gorgeous! We were amazed to learn that when booking, it includes the entire grounds- gazebo area, grotto, and the indoors.Since it is located on the Riverwalk, some of our guests arrived by Riverbarges. We recommend booking an evening wedding/special event;it's very romantic and the grounds are beautifully lit.

Artful gardens, artful oasis, great gallery shopby Yahoo | 2005-04-26 16:35:12 |

The historic site is a shady, garden-filled oasis on the edge of downtown SA, accessible from the River Walk or from the free tourist trolley, with a great gallery shop (for discovering fine crafts and artworks made by artists from around the country -- glass, ceramics, wearable art, fabulous jewelry -- more an art gallery than a typical gift shop). Across the street from the school is the architecturally-amazing Central Library building designed by Ricardo Legorreta. Also across the street is the school's Navarro campus, with a large exhibition space that displays contemporary art from local or national artists. Admission is free.
