Overview

Situated along the San Antonio River and next to Brackenridge Park, this zoo is considered one of the finest in America, housing more than 3,500 animals representing more than 700 species. The recently renovated "big cat" exhibit draws big crowds, as does the bird collection, which is one of the largest in the United States. Allow time for wandering around—even though there is plenty of directional sign age, the exhibits are a confusing maze. San Antonio Zoo offers weekly educational programs and is also available for private events. Call for further information.

Great Day Out!by Yahoo | 2008-12-29 06:15:10 |

I have been to lots of zoos and like to enjoy the different features of each one. Honestly, I hadn't heard a lot about this zoo, but we were in the area and wanted to let our 2 year old daughter have something entertaining to do. This zoo is great for little ones! Easy walking, a nice childrens' area and lots of concession stands make this a good choice for families with small children.

The zoo is a gem!by Yahoo | 2008-12-08 23:03:14 |

The San Antonio Zoo is great! It's got the standard zoo animals (lions, tiger, rhinos, giraffes etc.), but it's also got species that I've never seen anywhere else. Some construction going on, but it's nothing too big. Very nice place. Will be back!

its okby Yahoo | 2008-09-28 17:07:52 |

Awesome visitby Yahoo | 2008-09-02 15:33:14 |

If you take the time to visit the ENTIRE zoo, you'll notice that there are several themes here. Africa and Australia are just two of them. Although there is some construction, I found it very diverse. Children under age 5 will find the Tiny Tot Nature Spot a place they won't want to leave. They have great customer service and everyone we came in contact with were helpful and answered any questions we had with a smile.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!by Yahoo | 2008-08-06 02:20:57 |

EVERYBODY RAVING ABOUT THE "SA ZOO" . TOOK MY WHOLE FAMILY [MOM & GRANDKIDS ] FIRST OF ALL LONG LINES !!! STAFF IN THE FRONT VERY RUDE. NOT VERY MUCH TO SEE. IF YOU WERE TO BE A BIRD WATCHER YOU WOULD LOVE THIS PLACE! WE HAD TO WALK ALMOST A BLOCK IN ORDER TO SEE ANOTHER ANIMAL . KIDS OF ALL AGES WANT TO SEE ANIMALS THATS WHY YOU PAY MONEY TO GO IN THERE! INSTEAD YOU SEE EMPTY EXHIBITS. WE HAVE BEEN TO MANY ZOOS [SAN DIEGO,ROADING PARK ZOO IN FRESNO,CA.] TO NAME A COUPLE THIS WAS THE WORST! WAISTED MONEY. NEVER AGAIN!

NOT A LOT OF VARIETY OF ANIMALSby Yahoo | 2008-08-01 12:09:10 |

This is a nice and beautiful zoo but it is in AFRICA THEAME so their are only animals that you see in AFRICA. So ther are no peguins polar bears. There are tons of birds!! I f you are a bird person you would love this place but other than that they need more variety. Oh and the people at the front gate are rude! they had a rope up to contain lines and with kids you know kids are going to grab the rope well every time some one would grab the rope they would yell at you and my boyfriend was paying with his credit card but i handed it to the cashier because he was holding kids and watching them while i took care of it and they flipped on me because they thought i had stole his wallet but he was only 4 ft away from me and i informed the cashier that he was right there and also showed hisid for him and she said she would not accept it unless he handed it to her and she did not tell me in a nice way!! so finally we got it taken care of but they need nicer employees to great the guest.

this zoo sucks BIG time!!!!!!!!!!by Yahoo | 2008-07-31 19:57:18 |

This zoo sucks big time and they do not have nothing to enjoy. My family and I were very hot, they do not have any sprinklers to cool off. It was a very bad experience!!!!! We are from the northeast and we are not used to the hot weather and at the end we did not like the zoo. IT SUCKS!!! I thought San Antonio was better. Never going back!

parking and safety needs improvementby Yahoo | 2008-07-04 06:37:47 |

weekends are pretty horrible for finding parking, and the last time I went, the Brackenridge Park (Zoo is located in) was having a major car-break-in problem. their security patrols are inadequate. I would also add after taking out the little park and adding the baby area, the Zoo really made that place boring for older kids. They should have kept the park for the older kids to play or should add something aimed for the older kids at the same quality as the new baby area. Some zoos in bigger cities have shows rivaling SeaWorld, not the San Antonio Zoo. I hope the Africa Live will consider some kind of high quality entertainment with their new ampitheater. If you like walking in heat a lot, then you'll like the Zoo, otherwise it is lacking. And that early bird member offer is really lame, that is their clean-up time and the Zoo is really nasty, but they claim its a good deal for members, yea right.

A day with 100's of Grade school kidsby Yahoo | 2008-05-09 08:43:25 |

I went to the zoo with my daughters grade school class. It was fun and the kids were accutally good. We saw every animal they could have ever captured. They kids had a good time. The prices of the food was OK and the price to get in was good. Over all I would recommend it for a days outing.
