Composed of two rooms, neither having windows, yet rich in burgundy vinyl booths, this spot is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and relax. If Raymond Chandler had been in San Diego in stead of LA he might have used the Red Fox Room as a backdrop. Classic old time steak place, good service reasonable prices. The Marion Davies provenance adds a layer of history to this favorite old time San Diego hang out. If you plan to stay in San Diego for any period of time you should have some dinner and drinks at the Fox. It's a classic.
I absolutely adore this place. I've been visiting it for years now and the drinks are excellent, the food is so wonderful, I cannot say enough about the tenderness of the steaks and the coffee is the very best I've ever tasted! (watch out, Starbucks!) The whole ambience of the place makes it very special too. The subtle candlelight, the sumptious booths to sink oneself into, and of course, you must try their fantastic cheesecake, it melts in your mouth. Absolutely a treat!
Funky and fun. The lady who did the piano is dying, which is sad. But its a cool place filled with red vaugahyde (sp?).
Great food and great prices - love the mix of people.
