If you know and love wine, this is the shop for you. A brilliant collection of worldwide wines packs two floors, where a bottle of Chaucer's Mead is found in a corner of a room holding a 1982 Chateau Lynch Bages imperial (5-liter bottle) of Bordeaux. At the Wine Bank, separate rooms are devoted to the output of specific nations or, in some cases, to a particular type of wine, allowing easy comparisons. Regular wine tastings are scheduled. The selection is great. The prices are great. The service is great. But what is really interesting about the Wine Bank is the new owner Pauly. Pauly also has a store in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. The store in Michigan is where Pauly became frieds with the now deceased reputed New York mob boss John Gotti. Pauly shipped wine every week to New York during Gotti's run as the head of the Gambino Crime Family. Once Gotti was sentenced to life in Federal Prison in Marian Illinois, somehow Pauly was still able to ship a bottle here and there right to the prison. Its all really interesting and Pauly is happy to share this story and many more when in the Wine Bank.
A great surpirse in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter. Fabulous selection of wines of all ranges, resonable prices and the best Friday fun from 5-8 downstairs in their tasting room.Been there every visit and can't wait to go back.
The knowledge of the "wine guy" (Brian) and the "wine tasting" gal (Anna) are something special. They make you feel right at home in your own wine cellar
This is an amzing store with the greatest staff you'll find anywhere. Just ask them for their house favorites and you'll be enriched with an excellent selection of new drops. The Friday wine tastings from 5-8pm are a must if you're in town.
