Formed by the dredging of San Diego Bay in order to deepen the berths for military ships, the U.S. Navy built this recreational island in 1961. More than 12 million cubic yards of sand and mud created this mile-and-a-half long tropical island, now home to upscale hotels, restaurants and marinas. Along the bay side, you can see the view from the tip of Point Loma, across to the island of Coronado and southward to the U.S & Mexican border. This is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset and a breath-taking skyline vantage point at night.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 06:00 AM to 10:30 AMWe love Harbor Island to sail out of. However, when we stay at a hotel we choose the Ramada on Rose Crans (across from the fish sporting pier). Everything's beautiful; location is close to amenitites we ever are in need of . We plan to retire to this area when that time comes.
I HAVE MADE 4 LONG DISTANCE PHONE CALLS, TO TRY AND RETRIEVE MY TRAVEL CUP. I EVEN LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THE HOTEL MANAGER, AND HE DIDN'T CALL ME BACK. THE CUP WAS ALMOST $15., AND I ONLY USED IT ONCE B4 PAYING $104. TO EAT BREAKFAST WITH THE FAMILY AT THE RESTAURANT. MY N.J. FAMILY SPENT THE NIGHT THERE. I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE TO THIS E MAIL. THANX
The place is all hotels and a couple of resturants, but strangely its left out of all tourbooks and nothing in travel guides even mention it. The view from here is idealic, you can see downtown, you can see the ocean and you can see the hills. There are a few public parking spaces and the locals love to tailgate here. It was so great to spend the day. It seems to be a sailing retreat, but we didn't care a walk here was better than a walk in Corando! What a waste of time that island was. The resturants were horrible, the people rude, snobs without a cause.
