Overview

This very affordable European-style inn is a lot like a bed-and-breakfast in its architecture and set up, but offers guests the privacy of a fine hotel. It's located in one of the most up-and-coming neighborhoods in San Francisco, where fine dining, shopping and entertainment is at your doorstep. In fact, it is within short walking distance of the Opera House, Symphony Hall, Civic Center, four-star restaurants, and many other secret hot spots, an eager staff is willing to divulge. It is ideal for the traveler who wants to experience San Francisco with the eyes of a local rather than hide in a hotel room. Room rates vary seasonally, check website for details.

Our Favoriteby Yahoo | 2010-01-29 21:16:25 |

This is our fave place in SF. The location in Hayes Valley is walking distance to the Opera House and Symphony Hall; public transportation is right at the corner. Clean, comfortable, with a breakfast room (breakfast included) and a corner bay-windowed parlor. TVs are serviceable, if old school; decor is Old San Francisco. Everything is a little worn, but clean nevertheless. However, if you need your own bathroom, this might not be the place for you. There is a toilet room and separate bath/shower room on each floor and a sink in the room. As the place is small, this presented no difficulties for us. And, as most places with bathrooms in the room (decent ones, that is) cost at least $100 more -- well, I have many better ways to spend $100 in San Francisco than on a room.

Very loud, and no bathroom in the roomby Yahoo | 2008-08-11 03:13:17 |

It was impossible to sleep because of noise on the street and the sounds from the front door/door bell. We asked to be moved to the third floor, where the street noises weren't as bad, but the fan was loud and noisy. I also didn't like the bathroom arrangement. The toilet is stuck in a closet-size space and you have to share it with everyone on your floor. The service was good, however, and the people there were friendly. The living room space is very cozy. If you have to sleep there, use ear plugs.

Best Kept Secretby Yahoo | 2006-07-01 04:09:56 |

The Hayes Valley Inn is one of the best kept secrets in all of San Francisco. I have been staying there for years and love the Dorm Style rooms with a hotel like service. Nothing like it in the world. Great Location right near civic center/Van Ness/Market/Etc.
