Disappointed and outraged would be an understatement. The Ritz is supposed to be a “high class” hotel but they way they treated me was low class all the way. I had my cell phone stolen out of my room from the Ritz in Jamaica and they thief racked up a $4,000 bill. Corporate office at the Ritz keeps telling me they will do right by me but it’s been almost two months and I have to stalk them down with e-mails. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who carried valuables with them when they travel. It sucks to have your belongings stolen out of your room and it is worse when the Hotel does not care about the incident.
very good Ritz, a tad stuffy and is very fromal like. I perfer the Four Seasons in San Fran, its more comfy. Ritz is good but to stuffy and fromal for my taste
Do not book into 2nd floor, odd number rooms. You will find yourself right above street level and be awakened (if you can fall asleep) during the night by motorcycles racing up the hill, cars zooming, sirens, and a crossing guard whistling every morning for the school children being dropped off at the school across the street. Otherwise, it is clean and service people are friendly and accomodating. A bit off the beaten path but not any quieter!
This hotel has to be by far one of the nicest places to stay in the U.S. I have stayed at the Peninsula New York, The Beverly Hills Hotel and other five star hotels, but this by far is the best. From genuinely nice staff to an awesome location (on top of Nob Hill), this hotel is San Francisco at its finest. We had a meeting at the hotel and I was extremely impressed with both the staff and the caliber of services they provide. Although it is pricey, if you really want to do the City by the Bay right, stay here!
I can guarantee you that all of the reviews were right on the money. My family and I stayed here for 5 days and it was by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in! From the moment you pull into the hotel to the time you're waving farewell, you are the king (or queen for that matter)! Not a single member of their staff was unfriendly, talk about great customer service training! Anyone that, like me, thought that customer service died in the 20th century hasn't stayed at the Ritz-Carlton yet. Like someone else here mentioned, it is each of the staff member's personal goal to make sure you have everything you need and they try their hardest to satisfy you in every way possible! They really go above and beyond what you'd expect from any hotel or resort, regardless of what you are paying. We stayed on the Club level and I can tell you that it was money well spent. Traveling with a toddler and an 8-year old, it wasn't that easy to just get up and go out to eat three times a day, and the food in the Club Lounge was perfect for us. The five food presentations every day were indescribable! They have a great breakfast display and then lunch and then afternoon tea followed by a caviar and light dinner display and then all topped off by a decadent evening dessert presentation. And when they say presentation, they really do mean a beautiful arrangement of artistically crafted food creations that are as appealing to the eye as they are to the taste-buds. The pool/spa was a wonderful treat as we spent almost two hours everyday down there. The 1st level spa (which by the way is below the 4th level main floor) was like a peaceful retreat to the mostly noisy and bustling city around the hotel. Filled with scented candles and soft music, you really get the full relaxation you need while down there. The locker rooms were elegantly appointed and had all of the bath necessities you could ever need. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bed and bedding were so soft. The bathroom was spacious and the Bulgari products were definitely a nice treat. Luxurious bathrobes and slippers were ready for us each day and they even had small sizes for the kids! Even the roll-away bed we ordered was soft and comfortable. As for the location, it was close to just about everything. And any place that was further than walking distance we just hopped in one of the "House Cars" and got whisked away in luxury to any place we wanted around the city. This is a great complimentary alternative to taking taxi's everywhere and all you have to do is give them a tip, which you would have to do for a taxi as well. My wife and I really enjoyed being driven to dinner in a brand new Mercedes-Benz S550 and when we were done a quick call to the Hotel and we were being picked up right outside the restaurant. Talk about VIP service! If you do decide to walk to your destination (which we did quite often), be prepared to walk up and down some steep hills. This is to be expected almost anywhere in San Francisco so it's no big surprise. We actually found it a bit fun, while it was challenging at times, to run up the hills while pushing a stroller! Not really a big deal even if you're out of shape like we are. We are definitely going to be staying here again and pretty much at any Ritz-Carlton available!
Recently I stayed at the Ritz SF with my wife and two children (ages 6 months and 2 years old). We had the Mercedes package and stayed on the Club Level (CL). Our experience started with an email from Alexander, our booking concierge, who made arrangements for a limo from the airport, spa services, car selection, etc. He had great follow-up and ensured that everything was perfectly setup for our arrival including car seats in the car. Our room was fitted with 2 cribs and a king bed. It was about 500 SF with an adequate bathroom. The kids received their Ritz robes and a great check-in package of goodies. The CL concierge and staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and made sure we all felt welcome and were taken care of throughout our stay. Every day on the CL, 5 courses of food were served – more than most people would ever need. If you wanted a steak or room service you could ask for it to be delivered to the CL lounge which was convenient. The CL also had open bar. Down the hall from the CL lounge was a new business lounge which was family room style with a tv, sofa, and 2 computer stations with printers. The indoor pool adjacent to the fitness center was perfect for the kids to splash in and no one was ever around to use it but us. The fitness room was not too impressive – typical hotel style with a few dumbbells, treadmills, and universal machine. I received a massage from Tanya, whom I highly recommend if you can get her. She has been a massage therapist for over 20 years and blends a keen knowledge of reflexology into her Swedish massages. Our car was a beautiful new Mercedes S550 Sedan with about 1,000 miles. It made for a fast trip to Napa. Overall there was little to improve upon other than the size of the room, which could always be bigger.
I'm not surprised this hotel has consistenly ranked as one of the 10 best in North America (both a 5-Diamond AAA hotel, and 5-Star Mobile). I have stayed many times since it opened and always receive the most exceptional service -- from the washed windshield when my car is returned from the garage, to the driving directions hanging from the rear view mirror, to the water bottles in the cupholders -- the staff is consistently and genuinely warm, kind, and helpful. Be careful what questions you ask of them -- I once joked with a room service attendant about a loud noise I had heard from the street outside, only to have him make a point to find me about an hour later at the pool, tell me it was road construction, and apologize for it (as if they could do anything about it). To add to it, I found out at check-out that the GM had removed the room service charge to compensate! I've been lucky enough to stay at a variety of luxury hotels and find myself consistently comparing them to the RC San Francisco.
Everything at the Ritz-Carlton was all about being the best. From the moment you walk in the door, the service was top notch. From the Bellmen and housekeepers to the Front Desk and the Concierge, every aspect of our stay was outstanding.
Quiet, slept better there than in our own beds, very friendly and helpful staff, pool and steam room beautiful. Great in house restaurant for breakfast. Car rental in house requires payment for garage parking as well (nearly more than the car rental itself)
Warm and freindly staff and the room is spacious and clean. Location is great that we can walk to union square for shopping and to Chinatown or North Beach for food! Great sushi at the lobby lounge!
