Be aware, even though the space is outsanding, this club changes faces often and can be a real rip off! For those visiting San Francisco from out-of-town, the Mezzanine no sure bet. The DJ, and the demographics change dramatically from night-to-night. That's exactly what just happened to us last evening. My partner and I paid $40 between the two of us to get in, expecting a better than average gay dance club. Satoshi Tomiie from Japan was the DJ for the night. Only when we got in did we find that the club was predominantly straight that evening and worse, virtually no one was dancing! $40 to get into a quarter-filled room of people mostly standing around was not our idea of fun, so we left feeling very badly taken. My advice: Skip this place until it becomes more consistent. If you really must go, check carefully the schedule online first or better, call ahead (caution: slow flash web site on older pc's). The mezzanine is the club of clubs. However, it gives a false sense of reality to late-commers, nothing intended, to the SF gay world, because everyone is beautiful! Perhapse it is the lighting, perhapse its the alcohol, or perhapse its the girls, YOU KNOOW WHAT I MEAN. Whatever it is, the club becoms packed @ appx. 11:00pm and lasts until close, whatever time that is, I never seem to last that long, but I hear that it's around 6:00am. So if you are in town visiting or just need a break from life, check out the Mezzanine, you will not regret the time you spend there. But if you do, you can send me a nasty e-mail.
