Overview
An engineering masterpiece, this bridge, built in 1937, towers with sturdy grace over the Golden Gate. Stretching over 4,200 feet, it is every bit as awesome an accomplishment in suspension-bridge engineering today as it was over half a century ago. Pedestrians and bike riders can access the east entrance for a jaunt on one of the world's most famous corridors. For photos, or to view the bridge in its entirety, try the spectacular lookout points located at the southeast and northeast ends. Don't miss the historic Roundhouse, a gift shop/visitors center, which boasts a fine selection of souvenirs, and an informative exhibit about the bridge's construction and history.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 05:00 AM to 06:00 PMA must visit every time you visit SF. For the best view, go to the other side of the bridge, in Marin. There are some truly incredible look out points of not just the bridge but of SF in general. There is also some great places to walk in Marin as well. Make a picnic out of it. There is no place in the world like San Francisco!
Visiting the Golden Gate Bring may easily be the highlight of your trip! At the right time of year, it is beautiful to be there. It is spectacular--don't forget to bring a camera! On a clear summer day you will get great pictures, but may not have as much luck on a foggy day. There is so much to see here--sailboats, sparkling blue water, painted hills in the background. Climb to the top of the adjacent fort for a birds-eye view and enjoy a bonus historical experience. Even driving across the bridge itself is a memory you will not soon forget. (Don't leave SanFran without seeing the legendary Golden Gate Bridge!)
i love the smell of salty sea and the great view.
Its Beauty on earth.. with cool temperature, n clouds around..!! The walk on the bridge is amazing, u feel on top of the world..!! A very romantic place for couples...!!
OVERVIEW: This was one spot in the US that I've seen on TV my whole life. I've wanted to see it in person since I was a kid...but seeing it in person was not as great as some of the other sights in America that I've always wanted to see (i.e. Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, Hollywood Sign, etc). I would definitely recommend seeing it yourself...but if you've seen it once you can check it off your list and feel comfortable never seeing it again. POSITIVES: +Most people, like myself, take this bridge to be a symbol of America. +San Fran is a VERY unique and cool city...it's unlike any other city that I've been to. +It's FREE NEGATIVES: -It doesn't have that "awe" effect other "American symbols" have. -Traffic is crazy esp during rush hour. -Fog often blocks your view (I saw it with and without fog...both were beautiful).
I loved the view from the bridge over the bay. It was our first time in SF, but it surely will not be our last. So much to explore. We had the warmest stay in SF that the natives told us it was strange. But, it was a plus, because we took some awesome pictures.
As I was in beautiful San Fran, I made sure to go to the Golden Gate Bridge. I actually ran across it in a little under 12 minutes. The view from it was absolutely extraordinary!
I was in SF, when I was 11 with my family, I remember especially the golden gate, it is a must see in SF as well as lots of other places too.
Being a California Girl, when I finally made it up to San Francisco, this was the first place I headed to. I still have goosebumps!Beautiful
I am from San Francisco and I still feel like a tourist when I cross the Golden Gate Bridge it's so beautiful. I'm more of a Bay Bridge Commuter like most sf residents. But it's really expensive to cross the bridge but you will see why. It's cheaper to go to Bakers Beach and get a full view of the Bridge and the Bay. It's my favorite spot.
