Overview

Constructed as a temporary attraction for the 1915 Pan-Pacific International Exhibition, this Grecian temple of a monument continues to enchant and enhance the city. The original plaster, which made up the monuments exterior, has been gradually replaced with funds raised by Marinas well-heeled residents who were loath to lose such a graceful part of their landscape. Swans in the adjoining lagoon glide by the soaring ochre-tinted colonnades and the imposing dome ringed with panels of centaurs and warriors engaged in battle over nubile maidens. Those column-top statues of sorrowing maidens turned away from prying eyes are using their tears to water the long-gone oaks that originally stood in the planters that they surround. Stroll inside the dome, clap your hands and marvel at the uncanny acoustics, then enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the park benches scattered to provide an unparalleled view of this gem.

Photographers dream, not sure it is possible to come home with bad pictures from your visit to Palace of Fine Arts. Reserve some time to relax and enjoy the beauty of it all.

I was so surprised there was something like this in this city. It reminds me of old european art...There were ducks and swan. I think It would be a great place to take pictures at.

Great building architecture with a mixture of nature! Go for a walk, relax in the grass and enjoy the sun! Not far away are many other outdoor activities to do as well.

We attended on a Monday, so the Exploratorium was closed. But even though it was a foggy, gray and overcast day, the pictures we brought home were wonderful!

One of the most beautiful places I have been to. A must see for everyone who comes into town. Even the houses surrounding the place are great!

Beautiful. Simply beautiful.by Yahoo | 2005-09-23 21:16:08 |

This place is amazing. Graceful swans glide on the water. Ducks chatter and wait for you expectantly for bread. Little turtles lie on rocks and bask in the sun that never reaches the Sunset, as if they know this. The sturdy orange pillars put the mind in awe that such grandeur could dwarf you so. Calm statues as tall as Titans gaze upon the water with their permanent expressions. Cranes are rare and beautiful sightings.

Every angle is a photograph, the breeze is perfect, the mood is calming, the atmosphere is serene! If you are in San Francisco, you have to go there. If there is a guy playing a wood flute, tip him.
