El Faro Attractions & Landmark
Lighthouse and ParkRincón,
PR, Puerto Rico
Overview
You will find a maritime museum and a whale watching and dolphin-spotting platform at this El Faro Lighthouse and Park in Rincon. The lighthouse dates back to 1892 and razed almost 100 feet. It has survived countless hurricanes, an earthquake and a tidal wave. It was raised and then rebuilt in 1922. The lighthouse has 26,000-candlepower light, which has been automated since 1933 and still guides ships through the Pasaje de la Mona. The museum is open in the winter only from 10a to 2p as it is totally dependent upon the labor of one man.Is the most wonderful place, not just to see the lighthouse itself, but to observe whale togetherness ritual, its outstanding and unforgettable. Of course, it is not all year is just between the end of winter and the beginning of summer. They have "El Festival de la Ballena"(Whale's Fest)to celebrate their return. I wish you enjoy the same as me.
When I visit Rincon, I always make sure I go to El Faro. Especially on a sunny clear day! The sky is amazing. The waves are awesome. The atmosphere is just so relaxing and soothing!!! Love it!
It's a great place to watch the sunset. A must see if you go to Rincon. It is a very clean and well cared for park.
Yes it is just a light house, but in my humble opinion it is also a beautiful, historical, peaceful place with a breathtaking view of the ocean and from where you can take a peek at the surfers "play with the waves". My husband and I loved it and if you have kids they'll be in "awe" during those "15 minutes" that actually can turn into hours of just admiring the beauty.
that is all it is. A lighthouse that isn't that large or exciting. The area is a small park right off the ocean. 15 minutes tops.
