Overview

This plaza, built in 1992 for the commemorate the Fifth Centenary of the discovery of America, extends from the San José Church and the rebuilt Ballajá Barracks. The 'Tótem Telúrico', an impressive, contemporary sculpture made by the local artist Jaime Suárez graces its center. The Plaza provides an excellent view of the El Morro grounds, the old San Juan cemetery, and the Atlantic Ocean. Teenagers can be found at the plaza, on weekends, skating and having fun; while, tourists like it as a place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Simple and fun!by Yahoo | 2006-12-08 18:46:59 |

This place is a little plaza where your kids can have fun with the hidden fountains from the ground below that shoot into the air from invisable holes and where you can also sit and relax while sipping on a piragua. My favorite is strawberry. Ther is an excellent view of El morro and the ocean from this quaint little park and there is a parking garage concealed below its grounds for your convenience. It is easily accessible to nearby shops and the sites of Old San Juan.

Feel the Historyby Yahoo | 2006-06-08 18:22:20 |

This plaza is situated near El Morro and the adjacent cemetery. It celebrates 500 years of Spanish history in Puerto Rico. It's far more modern than many of the plazas in Viejo San Juan, making it stand out quite a bit against its surroundings. Take a stroll through and admire the obelisk, and read a bit about the history of Puerto Rico.
