With its grey tones and garrets highly reminiscent of Parisian architecture, the Paseo de Francia is one of the most romantic spots in San Sebastian. It consists of a group of villas surrounded by private gardens. The buildings were all put up between 1926 and 1927, taking advantage of the area that became available after the Urumea River was channeled between 1920-25. The variety of styles includes the influence of French 19th century hotels, reinterpretations of the Baroque style and regional architectural traditions. There is a lovely promenade along the riverbank, surrounded by garden areas, sculptures and fountains.
