A truly awe inspiring night! The road was lined with costumed carolers, vendors and others spreading good cheer. I am returning this Christmas. I do not know anyone in New Mexico but continue to go every year. The place just speaks to me. There is no way to describe the smell of burning wood from the fireplaces, the scent of hot chocolate on the Road, the friendly shop owners and the number of happy dogs. Until I make the yearly trip I do not feel spiritually complete. I fly into Albuquerque with only a carryon bag. Why bring clothes when there are so many wonderful consignment and resale shops? After picking up a rental car I begin my adventure in New Mexico. Coming up the highway I watch for familiar landmarks telling me that my special place is really just around the next curve. The beauty of the landscape takes my breath away. I never tire of it. Side trips along the Cimmaron River and a tour of the haunted St. James Hotel are just appetizers for the real Santa Fe experience. One doesn't really have to do anything. It is enough to just be.
Seriously--if you're in Santa Fe during the holidays and want to have a really fun time, ask about the Canyon Road walk. The stores open their doors (some sell refreshments), luminarios are placed on the sidewalks, there are carolers and bizcochitos and cider are sold; it's just an all-around amazing, fun atmosphere. You will not be disappointed.
A fun place to see really, really expensive art. A bit snooty for my taste, but I'm more of a Norman Rockwell guy. But if you're visiting Santa Fe for the first time, you shouls see Canyon Rd...
Canyon Road is one of my favorite places in Santa Fe to visit. I love to stroll along this quaint road and see all the amaziing sculptures and art displayed. There is no "value" here and rightly so. This is an art wonderland for those who appreciate top-notch quality creativity and work. Sculptures, canvas, textile, you name it- it is gorgeous! Canyon Road is a "must see" for anyone visiting this area. It is set up in the downtown area- easy to get to. Has plenty to see and explore and wonderful eateries sprinkled here and there to rest and regroup.
Canyon Road is an unsurpassed experience for any art lover and offer's much more than southwestern art. Go on Christmas Eve for the luminaria/farolito walk--a beautiful and unforgettable experience.
