Overview
Bishop Jean Lamy commissioned this Gothic Revival-style chapel. It was completed in the 1880s. The stained glass window was made in Paris, France, and delivered to Santa Fe in a covered wagon. The most outstanding feature of the chapel is the famous Miraculous Staircase. The circular staircase winds its way from the floor of the chapel to the choir loft above. The chapel no longer belongs to the Catholic Church. It is a private museum and there is a gift shop on the premises. Admission: USD2.I attended a wedding here and it was fantastic. If you are planning to take the plunge, consider this place. It has a great atmosphere and the floating stairway is a great addition.
I loved the staircase. Not only is it beautiful, but the story behind it is wonderful! Well worth the visit and the minimal entry fee.
Very well preserved. Great story behind the "miracle staircase"- really makes you think! I highly suggest visitors not miss this easy to view attraction.
I was not knowing what to expect when my husband and I first went in. Once we entered the Chapel area, there was a spiritual presence there, that just took your breath away. It was so neat to see the life of Jesus depicted throughout the Chapel area. Then to see the amazing staircase was just too much. We cannot wait to go back.
Delightful story as to it's creation and stunning beauty of the creation. This is something that everyone to Santa Fe must see at least once while visiting. Can't say too much more about it or will give away it's intrigue!
Charming story of the sisters of Loretto found here. What an amazing staircase. We loved this stop on our tour of Santa Fe, NM. To think of the creativity and craftsmanship used years ago to build this beautiful staircase. I'm a real believer.
I've been to the Loretto Chapel maybe half a dozen times, my boyfriend's been there twice. We love it so much we're getting married there in November! It's an amazing piece of architecture and history...a definite stop in Santa Fe!
Wonderful chapel, inexpenisve admission fee and a true heavely stair case. Worth the admission fee to view this unique staircase and hear its story. Beautiful experience.
The history and beauty of the Chapel and Staircase is like nothing we have seen before! I can see why there are many weddings there - it would be very romantic and memorable place! This is a MUST SEE on any Santa Fe vacation trip!
We were told about this little chapel before I left Australia and we had to see it for ourselves. It is truely amasing, the staircase is so unusual and the beautiful old confessionals intrigued us. Thanks a lot for the visit, The audio was handy to listen to also. I would recommend anone to pay it a visit.
