Overview

Surrounded by the busy avenues of Independencia, Bolívar and Palo Hincado, this park marks the beginning of the Colonial Zone at its western extreme. Although the area is somewhat run-down, its historic importance cannot be disregarded as where the old and the new parts of the city converge. Often referred as the center of the city, this popular location hosts the Altar de la Patria, a mausoleum where the remains of the patriots Duarte , Sánchez and Mella lie. The Puerta del Conde, another historic site, is located at the entrance of this park.
