Overview

This is one of the largest and most popular onsen or hot spa locales in Hokkaido. Having many hot springs of varying ingredients, Noboribetsu-onsen is one of many well-known havens in Japan and the largest "hot spring town" in Hokkaido. The thermal waters that supply the hotels and baths in the area flow down from Jigokudani, or Hell Valley, contain more than 11 different minerals that are considered to be therapeutic and soothing for the body. There are theme parks—historical and natural in the resort area, as well as a host of superb sightseeing spots. There are dozens of hotels to choose from and the local cuisine is first class.
