Overview

The exhibits at the Center for Wooden Boats are not hidden behind glass. Instead, the wooden boats that make up this museum are out on the water, waiting to be touched and boarded. More than 100 historical boats are docked here and you can climb aboard and learn all about their history from a well-informed staff and dedicated volunteers. Talk to craftspeople currently restoring many classic wooden boats. Ask questions. Who knows, you may want to volunteer yourself. Admission is free, and donations are accepted.

So beautifulby Yahoo | 2008-01-01 19:15:42 |

I loved this place. I found it by accident and was so excited; being from the Great Lakes, I am crazy about boating, even more I have a love of wooden boats. I saw lots of families and kids there having their first experience of wooden boats. My eye was captive to some of the ancient boat displays hanging from the ceiling inside. Outside, it was like an art gallery on the water, with colorful boats, gorgeous sturdy construction, a variety of smooth woods and little placards with display information about each boat. I recommend this to any person, couple or group that loves to explore and enjoy the sound of seagulls, the smell of a nearby sound and the movement of a boat gingerly dancing on the water. It was a day of poetry for me. I will definitely be going back... hope you will too, and do support it!

Wooden Boats...On my!by Yahoo | 2005-09-01 23:47:59 |

This place was a little hard for me to locate but there was a nice security guard that was able to assist me to actually locate this place. When I got there, there was already a class in session where they were actually making their own wooden boats. It was nice to see them making them from "scratch". The front office wasn't open at the time, but it's a nice walk around to read about the types of boats that this place has. You could also sail your own boat!

Everyone was friendly and liked me being a Blanchard. I enrolled my daughter, Kim who lives in Seattle.
