I brought eight-year-old boys and had a great time. I do wish they offered more information about the exhibits in the wall text--in fact the place seems far less scientific than the Monterey Aquarium--but we met two staff members on the ground floor who spent more than 15 minutes each with me and my kids educating us on sea stars and sea anemones. They were wonderful and we all learned a great deal. Also the cafe has great views.
There were a lot of unique features that would bedazzle young children, but as an adult touring without kids, the aquarium didn't have too much to offer. Some insight into local birds and sea animals, but nothing spectacular to speak of.
Seriously? To all those disgruntled reviewers, what the heck were you expecting? Sea Lion Shows? Rides on Orcas? Dolphins leaping? If you are looking for that kind of entertainment, go to those big, hyped aquariums where the visitors look like they belong in the tanks rather than on the visitor's side. My wife and I spent nearly two and a half hours in the Aquarium, taking our time to see the specimens, the differences of each one, talking to the staff, reading the literature, and many other priceless learning opportunities. The objective of this Aquarium is more to educate the visitor about the LOCAL life. There is so much in the aspects of Marine Life in WA waters, but this Aquarium did an excellent job at covering most aspects. What were you expecting? To be kissed by a dolphin? Get real!
SHUT UP!!! people best aquarum yet everything there is so intresting and outstanding i love it i would go there every day if I could. So i would inspire you to go there im doing a research project on it and its a really unique place and a lot to learn
that aquarium was impossible FOR VISITING. Free to be, i swear i won't come back there anymore. I think that the aquarium's staff do not have common sense to take so much money for nothing.
I last went there years ago in school. After returning as an adult I realized how small this place really is. Taking my time to go through each area, it still took less than an hour. I am not sure if Saturday's are kids day, but the place was overrun with little ones. So much so, it became very difficult to handle all the screaming. For the cost of $15, I really thought they would have more to see. I would recommend going to the Salmon Hatchery instead. What a let down! This place is an embarrassment for Seattle.
I grew up in Seattle and was excited about returning to the Seattle Aquarium. It was a huge disappointment. First, parking is horrendous and expensive. Second, the aquarium was remodeled and is much smaller due to all the excess "atmosphere" they added. The windows were small and the areas were enclosed. Not for the claustrophic! We were done with the entire aquarium in less than 40 minutes. For $55 for 4 people plus $6 parking, it was a joke. Skip the Seattle Aquarium and go to the Oregon Aquarium in Newport, Oregon. My family and I have been to aquariums all over the US and this was the worst!
We went when they were rentovating so maybe it's much better now. It was a ok place it just seems kind of crowded. We did enjoy watching the otters.
I enjoyed this site on my vacation very much. You are able to take your time touring the facility and there are a large variety of displays to view.
The Seattle Aquarium is an awesome experience to see sea and river otters, seals, spectacular and amazing fish and more. It also has a playground and costumes for little kids. Truly, the Seattle Aquarium is a great place for all ages, foreigners, and locals.
