This majestic statue watches over Sejongro Boulevard, the main street leading to Kyongbuk Palace. Admiral Yi Sun Shin is regarded as a national hero due to his accomplishments as a naval commander in late 1500s conflicts against the Japanese. He improved upon the design of the kobuksan--or ‘turtle ships' as they are nicknamed in English--the first iron-clad ships in the world. He fought and led several battles and is regarded for having exceptional courage and loyalty. The admiral was also a scholar and a writer.Open Hours

this statue is jammed up in a median in gwanghwamoon. if you're going to gyongbok palace, you can't miss it. taking a good picture of it is basically suicide. i suggest seeing it just because there are so many other great things to do around it. the convention centre is nearby, kyobo bookstore, the 4way crossroad takes you to jongno, etc.
Well...this is something that's better seen in a book, because in order to see it and take a picture you're risking you're life. It's smack dab in an intersection, and impossible to take a decent picture. I did the drive by thing.
I love the statue.. U could feel the spirit of him,... U feel the fresh wind. and the feeling that u are safe.. The ttmospphere is great.
But...it's in a good part of Seoul. While the statue itself is difficult to get to (in the middle of a very busy road with 4 lanes of traffic in both directions), there's a Starbucks across the street AND be sure to check out the Kyobi bookstore on the opposite side of the street from the Starbucks (same side as the US Embassy) in the basement of the Kyobi building (the brownish/tannish building in the background of the Admiral Yi Statue picture). Very large and very cool store...more than just books.
