Overview

Built by the Jesuist in 1565, this church served as chapel of the former University of Seville. The crypt still remains the Patheon of Illustrious Sevillians, where such well-known figures as Arias Montano, Rodrigo Caro, and even Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer lie in tombs. The sculptures of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint Francis Xavier, works of Juan Martínez Montañes from 1610, stand out in this church. You can also find "Dolorosa del Valle," one of the most expressive statues of the Virgin Mary used in the Sevillian Holy Week, whose creation is attributed to Juan de Mesa of Cordoba, and dates from 1620. Masses: 12:20p Mon-Sat, 12:30p Sun and holidays. Do call the church for timings.
