Overview

This museum has five floors that detail the ambitious plans of Shanghai's urban planners. Visitors are provided with a glimpse of how Shanghai will look like in a couple of decades. The centerpiece on the third floor is a huge model of the city as it is now. Check out the map on the first half floor, where the districts scheduled to be cleared for new constructions and green areas are marked. In the basement, old Shanghai is rebuilt with house entrances, cobble stoneways and operating shops and teahouses.

Open Hours

        Truly amazingby Yahoo | 2008-05-22 03:46:37 |

The scale model of the entire city is just incredible. We spent some time looking around the place in general, but the model is the main reason to go. If you're living in Shanghai (or visiting for an extended period of time), go here after you've been around for a month or so: It's much cooler when you can identify all the places you've been.

        Important to know if traveling here!by Yahoo | 2008-02-14 05:00:46 |

I will tell you this once. Urban planing hall is a great place for adults but not so great for children because the miniture cities might not amuse the kids. I myself really love architecture so I really enjoyed this. I love this place and I hope I will visit it again. I give this a thums up!!

        Bit of a yawnerby Yahoo | 2008-02-11 17:57:21 |

I was told it's a must see but found it rather boring. The best part of the visit was the exhibit of Russian Art they had on the top floor. It made the stop totally worthwhile. I'm sure the city planning aspects are interesting if you're an architect, builder or city planner.

        Good on a hot or rainy dayby Yahoo | 2007-08-12 13:03:57 |

Top 2 floor are the best... 4th floor: a scale model of the city and 5th floor: the multi-year plan to attack pollution, traffic, etc.

        A must for Planners, LA's, and Architectsby Yahoo | 2007-06-26 18:55:48 |

The urban planning exhibition hall captures the painstaking thought that goes into developing a city. We need more of these types of examples to further our understanding of cities that are leading the way into the 21st century. There was little signage providing you with details on the various floors and thus I spent far too much time on the first 2 floors not knowing that the top floors contained all the "meat".

        I found its a dream place to see futureby Yahoo | 2006-10-15 07:20:26 |

Any tourist visits Shanghai, must see the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall first taking enough time ( say full half day) to know Shanghai of yesteryears, today and its future plan. Then only he should look for Shanghai of today. Our local guide took us on the last day as a visiting place that is not good.I consider thet I missed Shanghai and wish to go again.

The Shanghai Urban Planning Center thing was Great!by Yahoo | 2004-11-03 23:48:51 |

This amazing building contains an incredibly accurate model of the city in a couple of decades, complete with every tiny little detail and every single building! The model is huge and incredible. There is also a super-cool rotating statue of Shanghai's modern buildings in the lobby.
