Overview

People's Square (Ren Min Guang Chang) is a vast public square surrounded by government buildings. Truly an urban park, it features manicured greenery and, at its heart, the architecturally impressive Shanghai Museum. Other features include a 320-square-meter water fountain, subway station and an underground shopping mall. Because the square attracts many people, it makes an ideal venue for people watching. Add a carefree afternoon of kite flying to your itinerary; great for the young and the young at heart.

Old Shanghai Race Clubby Yahoo | 2007-01-04 02:05:11 |

Go check out the bar at the top of the old Shanghai Race Club (the old 1930s vintage clock tower building) The bar provides great views of the park and surrounding architecture and is a relaxing place to unwind after a day at the Shanghai Museum. This place has a great history back to the British colonial era when the current park was a horse track.

Food, shopping, sightseeing galoreby Yahoo | 2006-02-11 15:55:54 |

Not for the claustrophobic but I suggest visiting Shanghai Museum (20RMB entrance is a bargain) to see Chinese calligraphy, furniture, pottery, jade ornaments. Wander past the Grand Theatre, the Peoples' Government, Exhibition Hall and marvel at other surrounding buildings. Visit the underground shopping mall and especially the food court. From barbequed meats to shaved ice mountains to teppanyaki. As with any other Chinese food court, you need to purchase their debit card and then pay each food outlet with the debit card. You can redeem leftover RMB. Better shopping and other restaurants inside Raffles City shopping mall and New World City department store. Inside New World, there is also a modern Sega World.

I miss it so much!by Yahoo | 2005-04-22 16:45:51 |

People's Square is an awesome area to visit while in Shanghai. Great shopping area underneath the metro. Fun atmosphere and has so much to do there. A great place to go and see how the people of Shanghai are.

Can be fun if the weather's goodby Yahoo | 2004-12-21 14:31:03 |

Very fun to people-watch in good weather, but otherwise another undistinguished public square in China. Like most, it's crowded and noisy, so if you don't like crowds, avoid this place.

Many to seeby Yahoo | 2004-12-17 12:19:40 |

You have got many to see. The museum, the exhibition hall, and the grand theater. The crystal-like theater is esp. beautiful at night with lights on.
