Overview

Walk up a narrow staircase of the Chinaman Scholar's Gallery, in the heart of Chinatown, and you will get to see what a typical middle-class Chinese home was like in the 1920s and 1930s. This mini museum has a kitchen, bedroom, living and dining room, all laid out with the furniture and fittings of the period. There are also a number of interesting exhibits, including classical Chinese musical instruments, embroidery and photographs depicting the lives of the pioneer Chinese settlers. The Chinese tea ceremony is explained and musical interludes using instruments from China performed.
