Overview
This memorial near the mouth of the Singapore River may be small and inconspicuous, but the martyr for whom it was built was in no way insignificant. Born in China, Major General Lim Bo Seng was a great war hero. He organized a massive anti-Japanese resistance force prior to the Japanese occupation. Fleeing to China before the invasion, he returned to the region for a counter-attack with the British Army. His unfortunate arrest by Japanese forces led to his imprisonment and eventual death after three months of torture. A true patriot, he died without revealing the names of his comrades.
i visited singapore's old city hall,singapore supreme court singapore river,lim bo seng memorial and the cenotaph.i liked singapore river as it is a nice view and the supreme court as there are many lawyers and i learnt about many things about the supreme court.the cenotaph tells us how the soldiers risk their lives for us during world war 1 and 2.i feel sorry for them.and also,this was a fun experience for the trip.what everything mrs harris told me was true. thanks for the trip there. i really had fun. i would like to visit it again. thank you and god bless.xin chuan. class:5 daisy (25)
Lim Bo Seng was a memeber of the resistance against the Japanese during WWII. He was captured, tortured and eventually killed by the brutal Japanese occupiers. This memorial represents his sacrifice and courage. There are plenty of other nice memorials in this area too (WWI+II, WWII Civilian, etc). Start at Raffles City and walk to Raffles Place. See the history of Singapore in a nice walk and pay tribute to the heroes who defined Singapore.
