Overview
Standing guard at the mouth of the Singapore River is the Merlion, a mythical beast that is a cross between a fish and a lion. The fish symbolizes Singapore's close association with the sea, while the lion head refers to the legendary sighting of a lion during the discovery of ancient Singapore. Created in 1972 as a tourism icon, the Merlion is especially attractive in the evenings when it is illuminated and spouts water from its mouth. Today, it has moved 120 meters away from its original spot, adjacent to one Fullerton. A stroll in Merlion Park yields great views of Singapore's colonial district. The souvenir shop carries Merlion T-shirts and other memorabilia. The symbol of SingaporeGreat for photos!
There is a larger Merlion at Sentosa but this one is more famous. As the previous reviewer said, it's a great place for pictures at night....IF you have a camera that takes good night pics. Mine doesn't so our pictures don't look that great. Watch out for the spray from the water and make sure you wipe your lens before shooting, otherwise you'll end up with water spots in your pics. I woul've liked to go during the day to get a pic my camera could handle and to ride on the bungy ride but we ran out of time.
go at night and you'll see why the merlion represents singapore!
