Overview
Singapore's Champs-Élysées stretches 2.5 kilometres long and is said to have the largest concentration of shopping malls worldwide. Originally a nutmeg and pepper plantation, Orchard Road today is lined with ritzy malls, swanky eateries and luxury hotels from end to end. The more notable shopping centres include Ngee Ann City, Tangs Department Store, Wisma Atria, The Heeren and Centrepoint. Nevertheless, some old portions of the street have managed to escape the bulldozers, particularly the peranakan shophouses near Emerald Hill, built at the turn of the 20th century. This place you can walk around. It good for sightseeing. Many Department store for shopping. You can take a break with coffee shop on the sidewalk. And many people to hanging out with someone new.
Orchard Road is nice for shopping, dining and sightseeing. It conveniently located in the heart of Singapore for tourists to enjoy its marvelousambiance. May was a good month to go to Singapore because it was the time that I went there. There was no rain yet and the climate was fine for walking tours.
Orchard road is like 5th Ave. in New York city Thousands of hi-end shops all over the place. Feels like you are in the middle of sea of people. If you like city, you will love it.
I cannot begin to tell you why our visit to orchard was so much fun! First of all, we stayed at The Park Hotel on Orchard itself, just a few feet away from Lucky Plaza. So Waking up at nine a.m, we would drink our morning coffee, and then head straight out to find an array of bargains down the street. Shops generally open around 10 a.m, but the eating joints are open from as early as 4 a.m. Tang Plaza was great, as they had a Huge storewide sale on shoes, jewellery, clothes etc. So we managed to buy loads of shoes and handbags to match. Among the other great malls, Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City, Takashimaya and Centrepoint were some of the best for great buys and super food. always watch out for sales, as you get great bargains for as much as 50% - 70%. Lucky Plaza may be one of the oldest Shopping centres in Orchard, But the Bargains found there beat all other stores when it comes to perfume and electronics. Some of you may think these are Fake Products as the prices are marked down so low. But i can Assure you that they are 100% Genuine. If you are buying designer perfume for youself, and are not bothered about the box it comes in, Head over to a shop on the first floor, called Dollars and Scents. They sell Testers for less than half the price of the perfume. The only difference is, it comes in a white Box instead of the colourful, fun box. Want to buy perfumes as a gift? No worries. They sell the One with the normal Box too. And its sealed and unused. This too, is much cheaper than buying in depsrtment stores and at the duty free. When i questioned them on why the price is so less, they tell me its bought in wholesale and they do not mark the price up like the retailers do. Check it out to believe it! :-) Wanna travel outside Orchard? I suggest the MRT. This is situated right opposite the Tang plaza and only costs from S$ .90 - 1.50 per ride. Very easy to use, as a map is situated on every ticketing booth, and all u have to do is pick the stop u wanna get down at, and it gives u the fare and which stations to aloght at. You will save a bundle on Cab fare if you use this method of transport, as most roads are one way in Singapore. Why waste money on transport when you can spend it on much better stuff like shopping? :-) whats more, the MRT is only confusing the first time u try it. After that, You're a Pro!!
if you're in a 3rd world country, shopping in singapore is too expensive.though the views & atrractions u wont find in other countrys.long shoping hours can used up all ur money,so try to buy only wat u need.the foods are at its best, cheaper than most countrys,as for cleanliness it's above board, very clean. the transports are accessible to all from Changi airport, shopping mall, tourist spots like merlion, sentosa, the china place, just dont buy electronics coz if it fails ur'e done.nowhere to return it.over all - the best place we've been so far. We'll be back to visit again some time.
its very convenient to the hotel where we stayed...bars and shopping malls were just walking distance ...the lights last november was very very nice...though drinks and foods quite costly but still we love it here,as if theres no other place in singapore to visit.
