Grant's Farm Attractions & Landmark
Education Through EntertainmentOverview
In the 1850s, Ulysses S. Grant began farming this land, which is now a tourist attraction and a home to many exotic and endangered animals. This farm offers visitors many activities, from touring the land and seeing the animals to attending the shows and dining or browsing for souvenirs in the gift shop. Anheuser-Busch owns the farm, which is home to the Clydesdale stables, a herd of deer and other animals. Grant's Station and Grant's Cabin are two of the major attractions on the tour. Admission is free.My husband, daughters and I LOVED it here! It has a wide variety of animals (some of which you can feed). We especially loved feeding the goats although they can get a little rough when they are hungry. (head butting and climbing on you). And even though we managed to visit on the hottest day of the month, there was PLENTY of shade which was wonderful!!! My youngest daughter's favorite part was seeing the Clydesdale horses. One sad fact was a lady from St. Louis was telling us-since Anheuser-Busch got bought out, starting in August they are only going to have the farm open on weekends. This would truly be a shame, especially if it would mean the end of such a wonderful place. We are hoping this was just a rumor, but if it is true, everyone needs to take the opportunity to go see Grant's farm while it is still there.
Think a collosal, free petting zoo. You can pet pretty much every animal there, at your own risk of course, from Clydesdales - foals to adult to large land tortoises. You can even bottle feed baby goats for $1/bottle. THINGS OF NOTE: The Clydesdale paddock is attached to the parking lot and is not actually contained within the park itself. If you head towards it, do so with the knowledge that you will NOT get into the park through it. APPROXIMATE ATTRACTION TIME: About 4 hours if you take your time playing with the animals and see all of the shows. To enter the Farm, you must cross the road via the crossing guards and take a tram through a free roam animal area which includes the alluded to Grant's cabin. That being said, you can not actually enter the cabin. You can not even go up to the outside of the cabin. Your only view of the cabin will be from the tram as it rolls by or the stills on the Grant's Farm website. Still, you get to see some animals and hear some educational information about the facility. Parking for Grant's farm is $10 however, you can park for free at White Haven (the actually Grant/Dent homestead) and take a short walk to Grant's farm. While there are signs posted that parking is for the homestead only, no one is actually monitoring the parking lot. Besides that, many people do both venues (which are connected via 2 small flights of stairs and a short bike trail path). Tours of White Haven are free as well. To actually enter the house, they request that you actually set up an appointment for a guided tour in the front and receive a ticket (also free). As we did not have the time to wait until the next tour, we just saw a tour enter and tacked on to the end of them with no problem. The house is fairly empty with maybe 1 piece of furniture/a very small smattering of period items here and there. The museum is the most interesting part of White Haven as the building tour takes less than 20 minutes even if you play with the props and take silly photos. All said and done, with playing around and exploring the museum total attraction time for White Haven was about 1 hour. It's a take it or leave it attraction but something to do if you have extra time on your hands. Grea. www.SeaMonkeyInk.com
Be sure to arrive early in the day, before 10am, as the weekend crowds are large. Staff is very friendly and prices are very reasonable for food, drink & souvenirs. Granddaughter loved it - but go in the spring or fall to avoid the heat, and get their early to beat the crowds.
i remember goin ther as a little kid visiting from minnesota now i can take my kid there who is now three steve
When my wife an i took off to head north to the big city she wanted to go somewhere and do something besides going shopping. When we was heading up the interstate she seen a sign for Grants Farm she immediately said babe can we go there? At first i said u can see cows and farm animals at home (chuckling) to make a long story short igave in and we went to Grants Farm we enjoyed the day!! We will be back again and even if it means leave our farm to go to another farm. I would recommend this definately if u have a family that loves animals. Watch out for them little goats there always hungry and the like to eat a bunch of bottles :P We will be taking all the family members up there for a fun filled day. I would highly recommend Grants Farm. It was definately worth the drive even if it is 3.40 a gallon of gas and over 80 miles for us to get there we will return again!!!!
I like Grant Farm, because thier thing for the kid's to do.we like the train ride. And the aminal.the kids, go crazy.thier, show they can see.My mother would enjoy coming to Grant Farm. We, will be back in June.the kids is wanting to come back.
It's free (except for the minimal parking fee), there are neat animals to see (a bald eagle NOT in a cage, Camels to feed, baby goats), a tour through General Grant's cabin (great history), then there's free beer and wonderful food (especially if you like sausage), in a European style plaza. You can see, and possibly even pet, the world famous clydesdale horses. For an afternoon family outing with the family (especially with small kids), this is the best bang for your buck. A little trivia...the black metal fence surrounding Grants Farm is made from the gun barrels of old rifles used during the civil way.
We visited with our two children. There was something for everyone. We especially loved feeding the animals. It is a bargain considering you only pay for parking. We are planning another trip and this is the one place we will visit again. We can't wait to go back!!

Great place to take the family, from small children to adult. Alot to see and enjoy. Plan at least a good half day. Sometimes busy, but worth it.
