Overview
They turn the lights down low more than they used to here on the weekends, probably in an attempt to create more intimacy, though you might have difficulty picking out your friends on the other side of the bar. This is one place in town where you can be confident of finding ex-pats outnumbering Russians, with the latter seeming like guests on their own turf. During the winter it's overrun by western students, who nonetheless create a friendly, pub-like atmosphere, whereas during the day and in the summer, an older breed of ex-pat prop up the bar and chat to one another and the bar staff.Just returned from the most fantastic city in the Northern Hemosphere (4th trip!)couldnt find City Bar this time round :( Have since found out that they have moved over near the American Embassy, but then again the owner is an American-Irish Lady so that would explain the move nearer the Embassy and the Irish part explains the brilliance of the pub+the grub there ;) Would deffo, without a doubt reccomend a visit to City Bar, the food is fab, the drink good and the people fantastic!!!
Was a great place to go and meet friendly Americans and British during a 5 month study abroad. Eileen (the owner) is crazy, but who wouldn't be after living in Russia all those years? Some of the best priced beers in town, and they make a mean hamburger. Nights spent here will lead to crazy memories the next day of what happened. And yes, they take pride in having the dirtiest head in St. Petersburg. PS- That's not a picture of the bar.
loved the american and other international customers...good people...good atmosphere...the owner aileen, one of a kind!...beautiful location near hermitage and neva river...good music, drink, food...only negative, bathrooms could be cleaner
