Overview

More than 10 years have passed since the fall of the Soviet regime. Perhaps a decade is long enough to allow Soviet style to make a come-back. That seems to be the idea behind this bar/restaurant - one of the first major new hang-outs to open in the last several years. The interior is ostensibly based on the geometric styling of Soviet propaganda posters (hence the name). This theme is continued on the metallic walls in bold red and greens and with a small Lenin statue in the window. Although designed with tourists in mind, visitors to Propaganda are more often than not Russians. The best time to visit is on Friday and Saturday nights when the somewhat stale daytime atmosphere is replaced by lively crowds. The food (a combination of American diner and British pub) is presented in baskets with generous portions and copious salads. The drinks selection is adequate. Notables include Guinness and champagne by the glass.

The food was good although the menu selection wasn't as good as I would have liked. Everything inside has a kitschy feel, and they sometimes take it to extremes. An electric chair you can sit and eat your dinner in is one example of this.
