Overview

Built in 1829 as a French sea captain's home, Hotel 1829 has been a hotel off and on since 1900. Exposed brick and stone walls, tile floors, louvered shutters and mosquito nets over the beds take you back to the time when a Caribbean vacation was something different than a stay at a chain hotel. The location puts you right in the heart of Charlotte Amalie, a boon for visitors who want to get out and about. Do not neglect the hotel's eponymous restaurant. It is one of the best on the island.
