Grandma Nitti's is not only a Taipei restaurant institution, but it is a great place to network, meet up with friends you have not seen in years, learn more about the local culture and munch away on hearty dishes of fusion food. I have found the owner Rainbow, always willing to lend a helping hand to others who ask or are referred to her for advice. Her staff are cheerful and if there is a problem with the order, they will fix it. Weekends are mobbed, so if you want to just hangout or read as you eat, go during the week.
Place looked great, a hangout feel. However it took 25 minutes to be served served a cold breakfast, when the place wasn't busy, our waitress never returned to clear our plates, self serve water and coffee with a 10% service charge? We would not recommend it for the hungry traveler Get real Grandma Nitti's.
This is the last place I would go for food. But if you are in Taiwan for a short time and want some a cheap taste of home assuming your from the west this is a good place. I have been there maybe 5 times in the six years that I have lived in Taiwan and each time I am extremely disappointed with the food. It is terribly bland and I can feel that there is no thought put into the food. The service was good on a recent visit because I sat outside. It is very cramped with barely enough room to walk between the tables. If you visit Taiwan don't waste your time with this place. There are so many different and delicious foods to taste here, I encourage you to try as many as possible. Of course if your are here for the long haul this place is good place for a cup of joe and a chat with a friend. This is coming from the point of view of a culinary Chef. Happy eating. Good things: pet friendly, English speaking wait staff, open kitchen, self serve coffee, all condiments:ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper are the table.
Grandma's has great breakfasts at a good value. Decent western style breakfasts and sandwiches at a great value in Taipei. If you like cats and dogs, this is a great place to have brunch and read a book.
Grandma Nitti's is one of the best places on earth. Heavenly, heavenly comfort food. It got us through a tough time as students in Taibei when we were suffering serious culture shock and missing green spaces!
It must have been my first week in Taipei - back then in summer 1997. Basically, it was too hot, too humid and horrific to find a place to live if you don´t speak or read Mandarin. Walking down a narrow lane, by chance, we passed a new restaurant called "Grandma Nitti´s". It was supposed to be opened the following day. Nevertheless, Rainbow - a very kind and sweet person asked us to come in and be the first customers. What a relief...air-condition, great food, english spoken and pure kindness! Actually, Rainbow made up a Chinese name for me which I continued to use throughout the entire year studying Chinese. To make it short, my year in Taiwan would not have been the same without Grandma Nitti´s and I loved learning vocabulary there while enjoying great food! I hope Rainbow is doing fine! All the best and regards from Germany, G.
We stopped by Grandma Nitti's Kitchen for breakfast during a short visit in the summer of 2004. Although we enjoy Asian food and definitely enjoyed the local restaurants we visited in Taipei, it was nice to catch a more...American sort of breakfast on the 4th of July. Although the food is nothing spectacular, it was all well-prepared. Perhaps the same as your grandma in Missouri might make for a breakfast with family...and I think that's sort of the point here.
Grandma Nittis is a Taipei institution. It is Western style food, nothing fancy, but very tasty. The price is right. The setting is relaxed. I have found the service consistently good. The Rainbow, the owner, is a very sweet woman.
The most horrible Mexican food ever. Service bad. Overpriced.Processed cheese for omelettes?? A really bad excuse for "WEstern" food.
Great Western food. Great atmosphere. Rainbow is the kindest, hardest working woman you'll ever meet. I highly recommend it.
