Overview

Santo Tome is one of Toledo's best known churches. It is well-situated near to El Greco's house and the old synagogues. The church dates from the twelfth century and was rebuilt in 1300. It boasts a beautiful Mudejar tower, but most of its visitors come mainly to see El Greco's most important painting, the Burial of Count Orgaz (1586-88), which is housed in a side chapel with its own separate entrance.

Fabulous paintingby Yahoo | 2006-12-27 23:19:57 |

An outstanding El Greco, in which he painted the faces of his own friends instead of the faces of the Count, whose family commissioned the painting. The delicacy of the lace on the clothing is a feast for the eyes of any painter. The town is my favorite of all the towns I have seen all over Spain in my 4 trips there.

El Greco's Most Important Paintingby Yahoo | 2006-03-12 06:14:27 |

The church is exceptional and housing an important painting by one of my favorite painters. I visited Toledo over 30 years ago and enjoyed this church immensely. I recommend it to all who appreciate El Greco's paintings as I do.
