Overview

Not only does this street designate Toronto's east-west split, it is also the city's longest thoroughfare. In fact, Yonge is known as the world's longest street, stretching from Lake Ontario to the town of Rainy River, more than 1900 kilometers away. Originally used as a trail by the Hurons, the road became an official passage in the 1790s. Today, it is a burgeoning commercial district and a beehive of activity, especially in the section between Front and Lawrence. One of Toronto's three subway lines operates along this route.

Something for everyoneby Yahoo | 2007-05-14 17:47:56 |

This section of the city simply comes alive after 10pm. Accessible by subway and very easy to navigate. Restaurants and specialty shops galore. We found Richtree Market and thoroughly enjoyed dining, sharing a cocktail, and just people watching. When you enter you are presented a 'swipe card' to carry to the various stations. Coffee bar, pub, fresh seafood, pastry, oven-fired pizza, pasta, ice cream, juice bar. You make your selections, find comfortable seating in the gazebo or spacious dining rooms and just enjoy. As you leave, present your card and pay at one time. No tipping. You could easily spend an afternoon/evening along a section of Yonge and not see every shop or restaurant. Very enjoyable and safe for a late night stroll.

there was so much to see and do on yonge street. they had an incredible selection of restaurants, it was hard to chose just one! the shopping was great- lots of cute stores you wouldn't normally find anywhere else. if you like to stick to chain stores then go to the eaton center. yonge street was a good evening activity as well since it was so lively.

It's warmth and character. A very friendly city. One can lose themselves in the personality, and open friendliness of the people living there.

Better than I expected!by Yahoo | 2005-03-15 04:31:20 |

Not what you would expect for a city's main street! Instead of the tree-lined boring I was expecting, it was like a carnival! Just walking around is entertaining & fun.
