Enjoy cool air and mountain scenery at this ragged mountain range north of the city. Crowned by 9,157-foot Mount Lemmon, the range dominates the Tucson basin and offers 150 miles of hiking trails of varying difficulty. The drive up passes cliffs and canyons, lined with saguaro cactus, through pinions and junipers, to cool pine forests and lakes near the top. Some campgrounds charge a fee for overnight stays. Take Tanque Verde Road east to Catalina Highway (Mount Lemmon Highway).the drive up the mountain is breathtaking. I have never seen such beauty in my life. The 25 mile drive up the mountain is full of beautiful scenery with many opportunities to stop and take pictures. We saw lots of wildlife including deer, chipmunks, squirrels. Anyone coming to Tucson and not going to the mountains is truly missing out on a wonderful experience.
this mountain is cool because it's a work of art Hi you think mountains are cool well i do to.what do you like mot abot mountains.
The ride to Summerhaven is breathtaking. Hiking the trails is inspiring. The Mt. Lemmon Cafe pie is delicious. The ski lift ride topped the day. Don't miss this.
As soon as the highway construction is done it will then be the perfect retreat when traveling during the summer to get away from the desert heat. It also has the southern most ski-slope in the United States. Just a wonderful place! Stop by the pie shop, in your first building on the left hand side as you go into town. The service leads something to be desired, but the pie's are great and the views amazing.
