Overview

The Belvedere comprises two magnificent baroque mansions facing each other across a sloping formal garden. Prince Eugène of Savoy, whose campaigns against the Turks enabled the Habsburg Empire to reclaim Hungary, purchased some land beyond the city walls in 1693, upon which he ordered a park with elaborate water features and fountains to be built. In 1714, the Prince had Lukas von Hildebrandt build the Lower Belvedere for his personal use with its beautiful Marmorsaal (marble hall), the Prunkgalerie and the marvelous Spiegelsaal (mirror hall). In 1721, Hildebrandt started with the construction of the Upper Belvedere, purposely built for the prince's lavish masked balls, receptions and firework displays.

Put this One on Your Listby Yahoo | 2008-01-13 20:50:46 |

Everything about this Palace is awesome, and the art inside isn't bad, either! Both times that I have been there it has been winter so I have not been able to visit the gardens - but do put this one your list! Magnificent!!!!

The Belvedereby Yahoo | 2006-12-28 21:03:20 |

This place was a nice place to visit and take it easy. It was a large place and a nice place to walk. The art work was really amazing. We didnt stay for too long because we went in the winter time, which was great because we noticed more detail of the building because the gardens werent grown. It was a nice place to go, but there were many other things in Vienna during the winter that were even more amazing. Its worth seeing though.

Klimtz Gustav is so magnificent!by Yahoo | 2006-11-29 07:59:01 |

Belvedere is quite a masterpiece. I recommend that you should look at the garden from the second-floor window. So beautiful and very impression! There are many art paintings here, but Klimtz Gustav is the most beautiful art painting that I ever seen before!

Klimtz - For Art Loversby Yahoo | 2006-01-18 10:19:00 |

If you are strolling around europe i would assume that you would have some artistic inclination.... and i would suggest a must see at the Belevedere.. Klimtz Gustav. The only down side of visiting this place is that there are very paintings.... however check ahead since they run specials for different days and combine exhibition with the Klimt. For me, seeing Klimt paintings was sufficient :)
