Overview
National Museum of African Art is the best museum in the United States for exploring the crafts and artwork of sub-Saharan Africa. Specific areas, such as the Kingdom of Benin and the city of Kerma receive special focus. The museum does a fine job of placing its collections into informative contexts. Children will enjoy the films, workshops and musical performances. Admission is free.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 10:00 AM to 05:30 PMToo much Benin
Overall, worth a trip to see, but too many examples of the same type of item, and too much from too few places, such as Benin. Some pieces are tourist trade quality, especially the fabrics.
